Sexual education of our children should happen in the family circle. But, since the mere talk about sex within some families raises shame, judgement and many other feelings and reactions that shouldn’t take place in a very important educative process of a child’s mind, many talks are left unspoken since for some parents this is a topic that is hard to even start, led alone talk about in a constructive way with a child. Since sex talk is still considered taboo, many children are entering their teens and after that, into their adulthood with a misconception of what sex is supposed to be like.

Many countries are having problems with their education curriculum regarding sex education. In most cases it is just a few classes where volunteers come, talk about risks of unprotected sex, how to use a condom, they play some videos, where they scare children about sex, plow through the children’s laughter and leave them even more confused about sex, then before the class. Not to mention that with the Internet porn, their views on what sex is supposed to be is very much distorted, because the depiction of sex in porn is not even close to reality, considering what’s really going on in the majority of bedrooms.

Italy is no different than the rest of the world. It is a patriarchal country that has strict ways of looking at sex. In some places in Italy, there are still arranged marriages that take place, and it is hard to imagine that they would install a sex education within their regular education curriculum. This is the reason why a former porn actor Rocco Siffredi, the “Italian stallion” took action and offered his vast knowledge of sex, to the school boards. He launched a petition demanding that sex education becomes mandatory in Italy’s schools and also he offered himself up as a teacher. Who else but the guy who talks the talk and walks the walk.

I wanted to launch this appeal because sex is a magnificent thing

“I wanted to launch this appeal because sex is a magnificent thing,” he claimed on the site where the petition was opened. “I put forth my name and my experience, I make myself fully available to go into Italian schools and personally promote this initiative,” Siffredi added to his claims and it is to be seen if this movement will take notice with the government officials in Italy.

It is not just Italy that has petitions like this. Britain is also in the mix, considering the fact that 60% of the children have seen porn by the age of 14. Being that this is usually the first encounter with what sex looks like, it is no wonder some of their children are already making sexual offenses, such as rape, with an excuse that they saw it in a porn and thought that it was okay. These kinds of problems hold a potential to go overboard at some point, when the facts suggest that 5,500 sexual offenses happened in a period of 3 years in Britain. Some of those offenses are rape, in 600 of those cases. That comes to a rape a day during a school year. These statistics are staggering and the reasoning behind all of it are two things: 1) children are carelessly exposed to misogynous sexual acts through the Internet porn, and 2) A lack of education that offers real insights about what sex should look like.

Pornography should be entertainment, but due to lacking alternatives, it has become a means to learn, especially for young people

“Pornography should be entertainment, but due to lacking alternatives, it has become a means to learn, especially for young people,” Siffredi said. “I have been doing my work for 30 years and I have acquired enough experience to guarantee that what I do is not sex education,” he added. So it is not all that crazy to see a porn star teach kids what real sexual act is supposed to be like. Telegraph/ NSPCC poll has found that almost one third of young people believe that porn dictates how to behave in a relationship. Most of their information gathering comes from the Internet, social networks and each other, and of course all of them are all a part of the same network.

The biggest fail of the sex ed is that most of the lessons were updated 10 to 15 years ago, and they have absolutely not a single reference to the Internet or how the Internet affects their expectations of sex and/or how to behave in a relationship. The shift happened so fast that the adjustment wasn’t perceived as needed, so now in 2017 the bill collector came to collect his due, and we have a mass of uneducated youngsters not knowing the difference between sex and love making. Having a pro like Rocco Siffredi in schools, just might be what sex ed needs, a kick in the balls so that everyone wakes up and realize that things have changed and that in 21st century there’s no room for oversights.
